A Timeless, Literary Masterpiece

“Unraveling the
‘Why’ In Life”

More than a memoir, more than a story, more than a personal account.

There Is a Reason Why is a powerful testimony of becoming. In this deeply personal autobiography, Marc Edgar Royster, Sr., Ed.D. shares the emotional, spiritual, and psychological evolution of a Black boy growing up in Liberty City, Miami, into a Black man shaped by war, trauma, faith, and resilience.

From childhood moments of joy—chasing lizards, playing with cousins, learning to live with little—to the harsh realities of inner-city violence and cultural pressures, Royster, Sr. story is unflinching. His journey through the U.S. Army, including serving as a peacekeeper in Egypt and boots-on-the-ground in the first Gulf War, adds raw, transformative layers to a life lived on the edge of collapse and awakening.

What Readers Are Saying

Real Voices. Real Impact. Deep
Connections.

There Is a Reason Why is more than just a memoir—it’s a mirror for those who’ve lived through adversity, and a window for those seeking understanding.

Oliver Hughes
"Raw, real, and unforgettable."

There Is a Reason Why is a story, less about a single life and more about the shaping of identity through countless moments throughout. What struck me most is his explanation of the ripple effects of experiences; how a childhood insult or a teacher’s kindness could echo decades later. Very relatable.

Marcus Williams
"Raw, real, and unforgettable."

This book reminded me of sitting down with an older relative who starts talking and, before you know it, hours have passed. Royster doesn’t just list events; he offers a complete experience: feelings, textures, even the sounds of those moments. Some chapters are lighthearted, while others are almost painfully raw. I found myself very involved till the end of the book.

Kwame Mensah
"Raw, real, and unforgettable."

I love reading memoirs, specifically those by Black authors. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, but what stayed with me was how honest and layered the storytelling felt. Royster manages to show both the vulnerability of a child and the steady resolve of a man who has seen the world and endured its challenges. Love how he has owned his mistakes as much as his triumphs. It’s rare to read a life story that balances humility with strength so well.

Diego Fernández
"Raw, real, and unforgettable."

The detail in There Is a Reason Why is remarkable. From life in Miami’s Liberty City to experiences abroad in the Army, Royster draws vivid scenes that make you feel like you’re standing beside him. I especially appreciated the honesty about the complicated relationships with his parents.

Amina Khalid
"Raw, real, and unforgettable."

This isn’t a fast read, and that’s a good thing. Each chapter feels like a conversation being carried on, often raising questions about my own past and the choices that shaped me. Royster talks about the way a single decision, glance, kind word can alter the course of a life.

Priya Natarajan
"Raw, real, and unforgettable."

Reading Royster’s memoir felt like peeling back layers of memory, some joyful, some painful, all significant. What I found most powerful was the recurring theme that we are not defined by a single snapshot of our lives, but by the cumulative effect of our experiences.
